How it all began...

When Irene Gleeson AO visited Africa, she was concerned by destitute children. In 1991 she sold her beachside home, founded Irene Gleeson Foundation (IGF) and waved a teary goodbye to her 4 children and 15 grandchildren. She towed her caravan to the war zone of North Uganda, gathered 50 war traumatised children under a mango tree. She began to teach them literacy, cook for them and give them medicine.
